Campo de' Fiori: the flower field that inspires our Campo collection!

Campo de' Fiori square and its market in Rome

One square, two faces...

In the heart of Rome, Campo de' Fiori bears a name that tells a story all by itself: "field of flowers." Today a lively square and historic market, it was once—as its name suggests—a flowery meadow before becoming one of the city's most vibrant squares. This nod to both floral heritage and popular bustle inspired the Popolo house for its Campo collection.

By day, Campo de' Fiori hosts Rome’s oldest market: stalls of fruits and vegetables, fresh flower bouquets, spices, and local specialties mingle in a colorful atmosphere. People stroll there in the morning, linger for a freshly pressed juice, and watch florists arrange their stalls like living paintings.

By night, the square changes its face: terraces fill up, locals and visitors gather for an aperitivo, and the atmosphere becomes that of a must-visit spot in Roman life.

From flowers to ceramics

Rooster pitcher and hand-painted ceramic cup, Campo collectionIt’s this double life—floral by morning, festive by night—that the Campo collection aims to capture. Hand-painted floral motifs, bold colors inspired by the market’s bouquets: each piece is a tribute to this "field of flowers" at the heart of Rome, designed to bring a bit of that simple, joyful poetry to your table.

Artisanal craftsmanship, shaped in Italy

Campo plate with floral motifs in front of a flower stallEach piece in the Campo collection is handcrafted by Italian ceramic artisans, using techniques passed down through generations. The process begins with throwing or molding the clay, followed by a first firing that gives the piece its strength. Then comes the most delicate step: painting. The floral motifs are drawn and colored by hand, one by one, brushstroke by brushstroke—a precise gesture requiring patience and experience.

This fully manual method explains the slight variations in shades and lines from one piece to another: far from the uniformity of industrial production, every plate and bowl in the Campo collection is unique, bearing a small imperfection that testifies to the artisan’s hand that shaped it. Once painted, the pieces receive a glaze and a second high-temperature firing, which sets the colors and ensures their durability over time.

This choice of craftsmanship over mass production is at the heart of Popolo’s identity: it supports Italian family workshops and preserves a know-how rarely found in everyday tableware.
